PowerTech demonstrates its commitment to the System i by immediately supporting IBM’s latest release of i5/OS
Kent, Wash. – Mar 26th, 2008 - - PowerTech, the leading provider of security and compliance solutions for IBM System i (formerly AS/400 and iSeries), today announced its products are compatible with IBM’s new operating system for System i servers, V6R1, which IBM just started shipping on March 21st.
"V6R1 is the most significant operating system update to come out of IBM Rochester in over a decade," said John Earl, CTO of PowerTech. "Some organizations are running security software developed by companies that have de-emphasized, or outright abandoned the System i market. By investing in, and ensuring that, our products are ready for V6R1, we're sending a clear message that we remain committed to supporting and upgrading our security and compliance solutions."
Many of the significant enhancements in the V6R1 operating system are related to security. PowerTech solutions complement and enhance the usefulness of the new OS security features. For example, PowerTech Compliance Monitor creates easy to read reports consolidated across multiple systems for events that are detected by IBM’s intrusion detection system in V6R1.
PowerTech has been testing its products against V6R1 since early versions of the OS became available late in 2007. While most of products were already compatible with the requirements of IBM’s new release, in some cases new product updates are required in order to run on V6R1.
